Funded by various donors, in honor of the memory of Ernest M. Channer, in 2024, the Ernest M. Channer Memorial Scholarship will award a USD $3,000 academic scholarship to an eligible Jamaican student attending university, trade, vocational or graduate school.

About Ernest
Ernest Channer was born on February 15, 1953 in Round Hill, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. He was the second of three sons and one of twelve children. As a young child growing up in Jamaica, Ernest displayed remarkable intelligence. After high school, his professional journey began when he secured his first job with the Ministry of Education. Simultaneously, he pursued college education to specialize in the insurance field. He became an Insurance Underwriting Agent and embarked on a successful career, earned numerous awards and accolades until he migrated to the United States, where he continued to excel in various aspects of sales and entrepreneurship. His dedication and tireless work ethic were unwavering. He was renowned for his exceptional vocabulary and strong verbal skills. In his youth, he dedicated himself to learning a new word and its meaning every day. An avid reader, he would challenge his relatives to complete a book daily. He was also known for staying well-informed on global and current affairs, diligently reading several newspapers each day. He had a deep passion for music, amassing an impressive collection of record albums. His love for automobiles fueled his hobby of fixing cars. His unquenchable curiosity kept him constantly broadening his horizons. Ernest was a devoted husband and father. He cherished family gatherings and never hesitated to assist both family and friends, regardless of the circumstances. Throughout his arduous 15-year battle with the rare illness Amyloidosis (Familial) that many of his siblings share, Ernest participated in clinical trials, generously sharing his journey to further the advancement of treatment for this disease. After a valiant struggle, Ernest passed away on September 7, 2023 surrounded by his devoted family.
